Nokia is a manufacturer of mobile devices and provides network services. The group operates in three business segments, Devices & Services, NAVTEQ (maps and navigation) and Nokia Siemens Network. The mobile device industry is characterized as mature and competition is intense. Nokia is highly dependent on its customers’, such as mobile network operators and distributers, ability to meet end-user demand in different markets. In low penetrated markets, sales volume of lower cost mobile devices and tailored mobile network solutions for low cost ownership are important. In highly penetrated markets, services such as music, maps, media and games that drive the upgrade of devices are highly important. The convergence of mobile device technology with the internet has further intensified competition and the range of competitors has broadened from traditional competitors, i.e. Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson to include Apple, RIM, Google and HTC.
