Skanska is the largest construction and development company in the Nordic region, followed by NCC and Peab. The Construction division, which is the main business (90% of rev.) performs assignments for external clients as well as for the groups own development divisions. Skanska largest markets as of 2010 was the US (28% of rev.) and Sweden (23%). Projects within non-residential buildings and civil construction account for the main part of assignments. Skanska’s leading positions in terms of size is an important competitive parameter when bidding on large and complex assignments. The margins on the big-scaled projects within civil construction are often higher due to a less intensive competition and higher risk profile. Skanska’s order backlog in the Construction division is good (SEK 147bn at year-end 2010), equivalent to 16 months of Construction revenues in 2010. The company’s expectations for 2011 are cautiously optimistic. Long-term, the general economic trend will determine the size of future construction investments.
