TeliaSonera is a partly state-owned Swedish/Finnish telecommunications company with operations primarily within mobile telephony and broadband solutions. The market for mobile telephony in the Nordic and Baltic markets is characterized by fierce price competition, and the sector is still subject to strong regulation from the EU. Price pressure will be somewhat set off by an increasing per capita consumption. Markets outside the EU are not much affected by regulation, allowing for higher profit margins in the Eurasia segment. TeliaSonera has signed a cooperation agreement regarding the sale of Apple's iPhone in the Nordic and Baltic countries. TeliaSonera launched 4G (LTE - Long Term Evolution) network in Stockholm and Oslo at the end of 2009, and the roll-out in other large cities is ongoing. This allows for 10 times higher speed than the 3G network. The company also secured 4G license in Finland in Q3 2009 and in Q2 2010 in Denmark, and a step-by-step roll-out is expected to be made during 2010 and 2011 respectively.
