FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)- German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG (SI) said Monday it received an order from the Qatar Foundation for a complete tram system in Qatar's capital city Doha.
MAIN FACTS:
-The order is worth more than 100 million euros ($122.6 million).
-The scope of delivery includes 19 trams with three cars each, signal and communication technology, the rail electrification system and the equipping of a depot.
-The trams will run on a recharging energy storage system from Siemens without overhead contact lines on 11.5 kilometer of track with 25 stations.
-The trams are based on the Avenio platform and will begin running in the fall of 2015.
-The order is part of Qatar's preparations for the 2022 soccer World Cup, for which Qatar plans to invest $60 billion in infrastructure.
